Secondary Metallurgical Processing (Ferrous & Non-Ferrous)

Secondary metallurgical processing involves the melting, refining, casting, and alloy-making of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals (excluding lead, nickel, and manganese) through specialized industrial furnaces such as induction furnaces, electric arc furnaces, cupolas, and crucible systems. Unlike primary metallurgy, which extracts raw metal directly from mineral ores via intensive smelting, secondary processing focuses on high-temperature thermal reprocessing, scrap purification, and precise alloy tuning to produce ingots, billets, structural shapes, or custom castings.

San Envirotech takes pride in being the consultant of choice for India’s industry leaders. Our valuable clients include some of the nation's largest secondary metallurgical processing and alloy manufacturing units, such as Ashish Ferro, Vianayak TMT.

Our Specialized Services (Since 1990)

With over three decades of experience, San Envirotech provides a "Cradle-to-Grave" compliance roadmap for the Secondary Metallurgical industry.

I. Pre-Operational Services (Planning & Approval Phase)

  • Site Suitability & Due Diligence: Assessing candidate sites against MoEF&CC siting restrictions, maintaining regulatory clearances from residential zones, national highways, and eco-sensitive wildlife pockets.
  • EIA & Public Hearing Management: Conducting exhaustive baseline studies monitoring ambient air quality parameters, soil composition, and background noise levels, and preparing technical dossiers for public consultation processes.
  • Process Safety & Risk Assessment: Carrying out detailed Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and quantitative Maximum Credible Accident (MCA) engineering studies focusing on liquid metal breakout risks, furnace explosions, and pressurized gas line safety.
  • Design of APCM & Closed-Loop Water Systems: Engineering high-efficiency Air Pollution Control Measures (APCM) including fourth-hole direct extraction systems, spark arrestors, pulse-jet bag filters, and multi-cyclones, coupled with optimized closed-loop cooling towers to achieve zero trade effluent discharge.

II. Operational Services (Compliance & Optimization)

  • CCA/CTO Renewals & Amendments: Overseeing timely renewals of operating licenses and managing official board amendments for adding new induction furnaces, replacing old cupolas, or modifying target alloy compositions.
  • Hazardous Waste Management (Form 4 & 10): Providing rigorous engineering protocols for the safe segregation, indoor storage, and safe authorized recycling or disposal of furnace slag, zinc-bearing bag filter dust, and oily mill scales.
  • Environmental Audits & Statements: Compiling annual Environmental Statements (Form V) using comprehensive fuel-to-metal energy balances to track resource optimization metrics for annual regulatory submissions.
  • Real-time Monitoring Integration: Turnkey handholding for the installation, calibration, and secure server mapping of Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) onto CPCB/SPCB clouds to stream real-time stack opacity, particulate matter, and $SO_2$/$NO_x$ data.

III. Strategic Regulatory Guidance

  • Policy Interpretation: Assisting secondary reprocessing plants to comply with the latest Ministry of Steel guidelines, National Steel Policies, and evolving domestic scrap recycling classification standards.
  • Liaison & Representation: Utilizing our 36+ years of technical authority to deliver unambiguous presentations before State Level Expert Appraisal Committees (SEAC) to justify furnace melting parameters and fuel transition choices.
  • Legal Defense & Show Cause Support: Formulating data-supported technical defenses, stack height verification reports, and corrective action plans to quickly resolve SPCB closure orders or unexpected show-cause notices.

Why San Envirotech?

Secondary metallurgical processing units face an unforgiving compliance landscape, characterized by intense stack emission audits, fugitive dust restrictions at the scrap-handling stage, and complex hazardous slag disposal protocols. Our deep-rooted history in this sector ensures that your facility is designed for compliance, operated for safety, and shielded from regulatory risks.
