Captive Co-Generation Power Plants (CPP)

Captive Co-Generation Power Plants (CPPs) involve the simultaneous, highly efficient production of electric power and useful thermal energy (steam, hot water, or process heat) from a single primary fuel source (such as coal, natural gas, biomass, or waste gases). Deployed on-site within energy-intensive, heavy chemical and metallurgical industries—including fertilizer complexes, integrated steel plants, and chlor-alkali facilities—CPPs are crucial for grid independence and thermal balance.

San Envirotech takes pride in being the consultant of choice for India’s industry leaders. Our valuable clients include some of the nation's largest captive power and infrastructure operators within heavy manufacturing sectors, such Atul Ltd, Agrocel Industries.

Our Specialized Services (Since 1990)

With over three decades of experience, San Envirotech provides a "Cradle-to-Grave" compliance roadmap for the Captive Co-Generation Power industry.

I. Pre-Operational Services (Planning & Approval Phase)

  • Site Suitability & Due Diligence: Evaluating layout geography against MoEF&CC siting guidelines, assessing coal logistics, ash pond boundaries, and required safety buffers from wildlife habitats or major river basins.
  • EIA & Public Hearing Management: Conducting exhaustive baseline studies monitoring ambient air quality, ground hydrology, and thermal profiles, and managing representations during statutory Public Consultations.
  • Process Safety & Risk Assessment: Executing comprehensive Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and quantitative Maximum Credible Accident (MCA) studies focusing on high-pressure steam explosions, furnace explosions (boiler implosion/explosion), and combustible gas leaks.
  • Design of ETP/STP/APCM: Engineering high-efficiency Air Pollution Control Measures (APCM) including Electrostatic Precipitators (ESPs) with 99.9%+ collection efficiencies, Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) systems, and Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) loops, alongside specialized Effluent Treatment Plants to treat complex cooling tower blowdown and coal-yard runoff.

II. Operational Services (Compliance & Optimization)

  • CCA/CTO Renewals & Amendments: Overseeing timely renewals of operating licenses and steering board amendments for capacity upgrades, turbine modifications, or boiler fuel switches (e.g., transitioning from coal to biomass co-firing).
  • Hazardous & Solid Waste Management: Providing strict engineering protocols for 100% utilization of coal fly ash and bottom ash in line with current MoEF&CC fly ash notifications, alongside managing ETP chemical sludges and spent demineralization (DM) plant resins (Form 4 & 10).
  • Environmental Audits & Statements: Compiling annual Environmental Statements (Form V) using comprehensive fuel-to-megawatt thermal mass balance calculations to optimize specific water and energy consumption parameters.

III. Strategic Regulatory Guidance

  • Liaison & Representation: Leveraging 35+ years of professional engineering credibility to present clear, data-driven technical defenses before the Expert Appraisal Committees (EAC) of the MoEF&CC or SEAC panels.
  • Legal Defense & Show Cause Support: Formulating data-supported technical answers, stack height verification reports, and engineering corrective action plans to rapidly resolve SPCB show-cause notifications or unexpected closure orders.

Why San Envirotech?

Captive Co-Generation plants in heavy chemical, steel, and fertilizer complexes operate under rigorous environmental surveillance due to massive ash footprints, strict thermal discharge standards, and mandatory CEMS telemetry updates. Our deep-rooted history in this sector ensures that your facility is designed for compliance, operated for safety, and shielded from regulatory risks.
